This poem is dedicated to Jack Dolgy, born at 16.56 on 24 October 2009, in Doha, Qatar, weighing 2.61 kg, a firstborn son to two of our best friends, Sasha and Lucy Dolgy.
Time stands still on a day like this
The day you came and changed their world
Finally you are real; to hold and to kiss
New skin to smell, new fingers uncurled
Until now, to us you were known as “Bean”
Bean-shaped, bean-sized, fast-growing
A little person so loved but not yet seen
A gift to friends we hated to see going
A new life starts now; no longer the same
Parenting has begun; a life-long task
Sometimes a sentence, sometimes a game
But for two better parents, you could not ask
Jack, it’s not possible to be loved more
Here’s to your new, thrilling journey together
No-one can know what your life has in store
May you all thrive in good and bad weather
Your Mummy and Daddy are missed by many
We’re all so pleased that they’ve found such joy
They deserve you so much, perhaps more than any
They’ll adore you forever, their dear little boy
And you’ll teach them more than they’ve ever learnt
And care for them more than they’ve ever felt
They may be your parents, but prepared, they weren’t
For the miraculous hand of cards they’ve been dealt
I sit here now with my two little ones
Memories of their births are flooding back
Snippets of pure joy and mental “re-runs”
I’ve been where your parents are now, Jack
I can’t wait to meet you, I hope to soon
Maybe you and my kids can have a friendship like ours
Your Mummy loves my little ones “more than the Moon”
I love you too, Jack, “more than the Stars”
To Sasha & Lucy
Well done you two!
We love you and miss you,
All our love
Jane, Jase, Skye and Noah
